Hello and Welcome to Parenting With Delight! My name is Meng Yen Yew, and I’m very pleased that we can connect here.
I’m the founder of Parenting With Delight, and I’m a dad of two young children embracing my fourth decade. I created Parenting With Delight (PWD) to share resources and tools with parents so that we can all raise healthy and happy kids.
Parenting is probably one of the toughest jobs in the world, yet it is often not given much thought about and most of us are doing it without much support or help. Fortunately, effective parenting methods can be learned for those who are willing.
Parenting touches on many areas, including but not limited to scientific methods, psychology, philosophy, nutrition, brain science, behavioral studies, etc. In Parenting With Delight, we mainly focus on how we can have a deep emotional connection with our child(ren) and enjoy our family life better.
Parenting is truly a life-long journey of learning, personal development and self reflection. The information and resources on this website might evolve with time and needs, however our mission remains firm, which is to empower gentle parents and families to apply conscious peaceful parenting and bring out the best in the children and the parents.
I used to lead an extremely busy corporate life working in multinational companies, and my inability to find a healthy balance between work and family eventually had serious negative implications in my family life. I knew I had to do something, and in my search for parenting help, I came across principles of peaceful parenting, conscious parenting, gentle parenting, positive discipline, and many other parenting ideas by many wonderful parenting educators and programs. The books, courses, training programs and the wonderful communities really helped me clear a lot of my limiting beliefs and become a much better parent and husband.
In 2017, after I resigned from my corporate job in order to care for my wife and family while expecting our second child, I managed to find the time to join the parenting coaching certification program offered by the Jai Institute for Parenting. It was challenging for me to find the time and energy to study and have weekly coaching sessions with my program cohorts and our program facilitator while I was learning the ropes of being a stay-at-home dad, and I’m grateful and glad that I finally pulled myself through and completed the program in a year or so after dropping out the first time and retaking it the second time.
With all that was going on around the world as well as a lot of inner contemplation, my perspectives on life, family and career changed significantly. Besides benefiting from all these valuable resources in my own parenting, I felt it was important for me to connect and share the principles of peaceful parenting and positive discipline with other parents who are looking for ways to be a more effective parent.
Continuous learning has been very important to me on my journey as a parent as well as a parenting coach, and I’ve benefited much from the wisdom of Dr. Shefali, Jane Nelsen, Lynn Lott and Dr. Laura Markham. As I was fascinated by the body of work produced by Jane Nelsen and Lynn Lott, I later went through the Positive Discipline program and became a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator.
It really lights me up when I’m able to help other parents through struggles I’ve experienced in the past or am struggling with currently in my own parenting. I am always delighted to see children being their natural true self, with so much curiosity of the world around and so much potential to create the life and the future they truly desire.
Feel free to browse around the Parenting With Delight website, and let me know if you have any comment or would simply want to say hello. I’m truly honored and delighted to have you with us on this journey of peaceful parenting together.
Yours Sincerely,
Meng Yen
